For my absence, life got a little hairy for a moment, but I will return either by the end of the day or tomorrow, and start the next week of asari stuff.

If there is a certain topic you would like me to focus on for the next seven days, feel free to tell me. Even if i don’t do it this week I could do it the next.

nothingthatisntbeautiful whispered: You have a lovely tumblr :) Do you have an idea of what the head/face flaps that Samara in ME 2 and then Liara in ME 3 have? They can't be just cosmetic, can't they? I want them to be asari death ray glare enablers. What do you think? Thanks!

Tbh I’m pretty sure they’re just, like armor plating for their face.

They don’t really protect anything when you think about it.

BUT WHATEVS

Asari Shopkeeper: I really appreciate management doing it. My husband's away on duty right now.
Asari Customer: Oh, you're bonded with a turian?
Asari Shopkeeper: No, actually. My husband is a krogan.
Asari Customer: Oh! Well, that's great. I just hope he knows which ones to fight!
Asari Shopkeeper: Um ... Excuse me?
Asari Customer: I didn't... Well, I just...
Asari Shopkeeper: My husband is risking his life to protect us right now.
Asari Customer: I'm so sorry. That was thoughtless and... I'm so sorry.
Asari Shopkeeper: No, no, I understand. Sometimes I'm surprised, myself.

fleet-admiral-red replied to your post “So, more from Season of Sorrows. Asari warp swords! Made of highly carbonized, phase compressed steel folded thousands of times, coated in magnetically charged transparent aluminum crystal sharpened to a monomolecular edge, and filled with eezo.”

(cont’d) The Eezo in each warp sword allows the user to channel Warp throughout the blade, enhancing its cutting power. However, it is extremely resource-intensive, each one costing millions of credits and taking roughly 50 years to make.

fleet-admiral-red whispered: So, like I said. You want 47? Only if you're an asari yourself and drowning with money. A SINGLE warp sword costs millions of credits and takes about/over FIFTY YEARS to make. You sure you're willing to wait over 2000 years for all 47?

YES YES I AM

like they say

I have all the time in the world.

SOOOOO

allaboutasari:

Makes me wonder what kind of pronouns the asari used before than ran into bi-gendered species. Or if they had special words for it or something.

My firm headcanon is that asari language(s) have no grammatical gender (much like Austronesian languages) and the translators…

Agreed. I’m a native speaker of a genderless language myself and the lack of gender specified third person pronouns works well enough even in a binary gender society. Makes me wonder, though, how the asari deal with it when they first learn that most, if not all other known sentient species in the galaxy are not like them. I know I was confused as a kid when it dawned upon me that in English there are different words for the third person singular pronouns, and as a human I already had a pretty solid conception of men and women. I was still worried I would never learn to use them properly.

Then again, if the fauna on Thessia is not mono-gendered the asari are exposed to the concept of differing sexes from the very beginning and possibly have at least some words that distinguish them from each other. And in mixed colonies outside Thessia the young ones are most certainly exposed to different species with differing sexes. Whether they have felt the need to create words for males and females of other species, though, is completely debatable.

I don’t know if I even had a solid point with any of this.
